The City of Lynchburg Department of Parks and Recreation offers a variety of services and activities to residents and visitors. We maintain 17 parks, which offer organized and open areas for recreation, enjoying a picnic, fishing, canoeing and kayaking, and children’s play. Over 40 miles of our trails wind through Lynchburg and are suited for a variety of activities including walking, mountain biking, hiking, and running. Community residents also enjoy the use of nine recreation centers, which are utilized for planned group programs, birthdays, baby showers, community meetings, and their outdoor amenities.

In addition, Parks and Recreation facilitates many events for outside organizations, but has also hosted several community events. We invite you to explore our website and Find Your Fun with us!

  • To promote public awareness and support for recreation, park and leisure services as they relate to the constructive use of leisure and thereby to the social stability of our community and the physical and mental health of individuals.

  • ACRPD strives to promote public awareness of the environmental and natural resource management aspects of recreation and leisure services that are available

  • To facilitate the development, maintenance, expansion and improvement of socially and environmentally relevant public policy that supports recreation, parks and leisure programs and services.

Bedford Parks and Rec.PNG

Since its creation, the BCPRD has addressed the leisure needs of the County with available resources and with the intent of providing a wide range of recreational activities for all aspects of Bedford County's population.

The BCPRD coordinates through, and collaborates with, 10 different recreation associations throughout Bedford County to provide the various youth activities. Each association is represented by an Association Supervisor that is contracted through and paid by the County to provide assistance, and to serve as a liaison between the BCPRD and their respective local association.

Included in the Department's youth sports offerings are: football, cheerleading, soccer, wrestling, tee-ball, baseball, softball, basketball, and tennis. Additionally, various sport's camps may be offered throughout the year.

Currently, adult co-ed softball is offered in the fall. A variety of activities, with a primary emphasis on the County's senior population, including, a senior softball team, lunch trips and day trips to various points of interest are offered. Bingo is another activity that is offered and enjoyed by many local seniors.

UMA exists to serve the community in a positive way by encouraging teens to turn off their cellphones and computers, step out of their comfort zones, and set off on a real adventure. We desire to impact teens by leading them on wilderness experiences that develop a new perspective on life and impart a deeper understanding and respect for the world around them . We feel that any youth can benefit from the physical and spiritual challenges found in exploring nature.

The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) provides the nation’s foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training, which helps young people be “Prepared. For Life.®” The Scouting organization is composed of approximately 2.2 million youth members between the ages of 5 and 21 and approximately 800,000 volunteers in local councils throughout the United States and its territories. 

BSA programs are divided by age and activity: Cub Scouting is for boys and girls in kindergarten through 5th grade, Scouts BSA is open to young men and young women in grades 6 through 12, and co-ed Venturing and Sea Scouting are available for young men and young women age 14 through 20. The BSA also offers career-oriented co-ed Exploring programs to youth age 10 through 20. 

At Girl Scouts, she’ll get to lead her own adventure (it’s her world!) and team up with other girls in an all-girl environment to choose the exciting, hands-on activities that interest her most. Along the way, she’ll gain important skills in four areas that form the foundation of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience:

  • Science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM)

  • Outdoors

  • Life Skills

  • Entrepreneurship

In fact, being a Girl Scout helps girls thrive in five key ways. As a Girl Scout, she:

• Develops a strong sense of self
• Displays positive values
• Seeks challenges and learns from setbacks
• Forms and maintains healthy relationships
• Learns to identify and solve problems in her community

Hunton-Randolph is a non-profit organization established to provide educational, enrichment, and recreational programs to families living in the great Lynchburg community. Serving true as a community center the HRCC provides

• Free access to programs and facilities for area families

• Fundraising events

• Facility rentals to groups for private events/meeting

• Activities for all age groups

Children of all ages receive encouragement and support to grow academically and socially through the programs offered at the center which include:

• Mentoring for academic success

• Evening meals and snacks six days a week

• Computer lab activities

• Music, art, and dance classes • Seasonal events

KidFit is a non-profit with big goals for changing our world one child at a time, one city at a time, one state at a time, and one nation at a time.

Our mission is to provide mentorship and opportunities for kids of all backgrounds.

Currently, KidFit operates a training facility in Lynchburg, VA (1030 McConville Road, Unit 3, Lynchburg, VA).  KidFit offers 10+ training classes per week for ages 6 thru 18.  KidFit sponsors and coaches a travel 7v7 Football team each spring.  KidFit partners with other organizations to bring camps and other opportunities to Lynchburg.

Long term, everywhere there is a YMCA, there should be a KidFit serving kids an communities.

Hope for Youth, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that empowers girls of color to confidently pursue 21st century careers and opportunities in computing and technology. We offer programs that help girls of color gain technology skills and prepare to become future leaders; thereby establishing a pipeline of diverse talent for tech and tech-enabled careers.

​

​Through our mission to plug the leaky tech pipeline we not only train talent, but we also support talent retention of women of color who currently make up the tech workforce. We provide women in STEM professionals with purposeful opportunities to join our network as guest speakers, career exposure hosts, and mentors.

The Lynchburg Museum System manages the official history museums and archives of the City of Lynchburg. It is a division of the City’s Office of Economic Development and Tourism, working in partnership with the non-profit Lynchburg Museum Foundation.

The Museum System is responsible for operating two museums: the Lynchburg Museum at the Old Court House and Point of Honor, the historic site on Daniel’s Hill. These museums care for over 40,000 artifacts and share the diverse stories of three centuries of local history with residents, tourists, and students of all ages. Thanks to a partnership with Lynchburg City Schools, all 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade public school students visit our museums for field trips each year.

The Lynchburg Museum at the Old Court House is open three days a week:

Friday 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
Saturday 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
Sunday 12:00 noon–4:00 p.m.

Snowflex specializes in year-round mountain activities open to Liberty University students, faculty, staff, and the general public. Blast down one of our Neveplast tubing runs or ski/board in all four seasons on our Snowflex slopes. Take a break from your studies and enjoy all that Liberty University has to offer—outdoors! Camp, kayak, and even fish at the Hydaway Outdoor Center located less than 5 miles from the Liberty University campus. Run, hike, or bike on our expansive trail system. In the mood for adventure? Take a short getaway with us on one of our guided outdoor trips or compete in one of our trail races.The Montview Bowling Alley is a family-friendly 8-lane bowling alley open to the Liberty University community as well as the Lynchburg community. The Bowling Alley offers weekly specials, fun family nights throughout the year, reservation opportunities, and more. Being located on the basement floor of the Montview Student Union, the Bowling Alley can be a little tricky to find if users are unfamiliar with Liberty’s campus. Dynamic Gymnastics is dedicated to children’s fitness and well-being. The sport of gymnastics will increase a child’s strength, flexibility, and coordination as well as instill a healthy lifestyle and strong work ethic. Here, at Dynamic Gymnastics we hope to create an environment that fosters a love and passion for the sport of gymnastics along with a lifelong love of fitness and exercise.

Dynamic’s entire coaching staff have all obtained professional memberships through their respective governing bodies, undergone background checks, and successfully completed safety certifications. We offer a variety of recreational classes, which include various levels of Girls Gymnastics, Tumbling, Trampoline & Tumbling, Ninja, Preschool, and Homeschool. We have a dedicated Preschool room to allow our younger athletes to get the best start.

We have successful Women's Gymnastics, Trampoline & Tumbling, Ninja, and Cheer Teams, and are proud to be home of many State, Regional, and National Champions.
